Hotels in Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan or Phangan island is one of the idyllic islands which lies to the north of Koh Samui in the gulf of Thailand. The distance from Koh Samui’s nearest part is 12 kilometers. Koh Phangan is the largest island in the small archipelago composed of 6 islands: Phangan, Tao, Tae Nok, Tae Nai, Ma and Nang Yuan. However, Koh Phangan has not reached the developmental stage of Koh Samui yet. It is more rustic and laid back. This makes Koh Phangan appeal to many tourists.

Koh Phangan is about two-thirds the size of Koh Samui with a mix of sandy coves and rugged forested interior. Two-thirds of Koh Phangan is taken up by a long mountain ridge which is covered with a dense tropical rain forest and still relatively unexplored. On one side of Koh Phangan, the mountains drop steeply into the sea while on the other side has picturesque bays with snowy white sandy beach. Koh Phangan is also very famous for its Full Moon Party, for which people and DJs come from over the world every month. Several tables are set upon Haad Rin and thousand of lamps are lit. You will find all kinds of music here.

Climate: The climate on Koh Phangan is tropical just as it is in neighboring Koh Samui. The weather is influenced by the ocean breezes. The highest temperature is around 35.5° C(96 F) in May and the lowest is around 24° C(75 F) in the end of December entering January.

There are two seasons on Phangan; Rainy and Summer. However, in some years, cool weather visits as in Koh Samui from November until January. Rainy season starts form May till January. There are the winds from three directions; west wind, northwest wind and sounthwest wind. These winds sometimes bring the clouds and the rain with them in the afternoon of the day about two hours. Summer starts near the end of February till April.

Full Moon Party: Rin Nok beach or Haad Rin Nok, Koh Phangan is well known among Thai and foreigner tourists for its Full Moon Party. This spot is ranked as the third most beautiful spot in the world to view the full moon.
